Pompeii by Uri Duvdevani is a live audio-visual piece combining movement, text, and sound. In the performance, Duvdevani takes us on a personal journey through different historical and mythical events, the most prominent of which is the story of Pompeii – the Roman city destroyed in 79 AD following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The eruption buried the city and at the same time immortalized it, turning the story into one of a site frozen in time.
In the performance, the idea of eruption constitutes a starting point for questions about prosperity and dying, fate and choice, movement and silence.
The petrification that kills the body on the one hand, and immortalizes it as an image on the other, continues a conceptual line that Duvdevani deals with in his plastic and performative works about the relationship between the transient and the eternalת In the spirit of the times he seekת in this performance, to distance himself from and also confront the possibilities of complete annihilation, disaster and death.
The Performance was developed and first shown as part of the CCA’s "out-of-office" program, Initiated and led by Guy Bernard Reichmann. It later premiered at the 2024 edition of ‘Diver’ Festival, and at the ‘Between Heaven and Earth’ 2025 Festival. The performance returns to its initial home at the CCA for two additional shows.
